I have been decorating for many years but I took the big leap last year and went away to Able Skills in Dartford to study on an intensive course to achieve my City & Guilds.
Turning up in my decorator’s dungarees and pink steel toe capped boots I was truly terrified on that first day.
The two lessons I learnt pretty quickly were:
- I should have worn my boots in more! – They ripped my feet to shreds in the first few weeks.
- Leave extra time when going to the loo to remove the dungarees! – Women of a certain age will know what I mean.
The course was intensive, hard work and a lot of fun. Mark Berkes, my Abel Skills tutor was fantastic really happy to answer all my questions and share his many years experience. He’s a bit of a nerd when it comes to paint so I had found a soul mate.
Since January I have been growing my business steadily. I’ve got some lovely clients who have become friends and they have been really supportive giving me referrals and repeat business.
This is going to be the Juniper-ash year, looking forward to the journey and sharing the adventure.
